Alexandre Delgado

Alexandre Delgado (Lisboa 1965), composer and violist, studied at Fundação Musical dos Amigos das Crianças. A student of Joly Braga Santos as a composer and of Barbara Friedhoff as a violist, he graduated in 1990 with highest honors from the Conservatory in Nice in the composition class of Jacques Charpentier. Alexandre Delgado has written many instrumental and vocal compositions that include also operas “O Doido e a Morte” and “A Rainha Louca”, which were prsented under his direction in Portugal, Germany and Brasil. Winner of the first prize in Prémio Jovens Músicos as a violist, he performed his “Viola Concerto” with several Portuguese and foreign orchestras. Mr Delgado is a member of “Moscow Piano Quartet”, artistic director of “Cistermúsica – Festival de Música de Alcobaça” (since 2002) and as of 1996 he has his own program on Antena 2 – “A Propósito de Música”. Alexandre Delgado is the author of books: “A Sinfonia em Portugal”, “A Culpa é do Maestro (Crítica Musical)” and “Luís de Freitas Branco”.
